Catalanesca Harvest on Vesuvius: Grape Picking and Lunch in the Vineyard

On Sunday, October 4, 2026, the Harvest Festival dedicated to Catalanesca returns to the slopes of Monte Somma, the grape variety traditionally linked to Alfonso V of Aragon and Lucrezia d'Alagno. As reported by Luciano Pignataro Wine & Food Blog, the event is organized by Cantine Olivella in Somma Vesuviana and is now in its thirteenth edition.

How the day works

The event starts at 9:30 with breakfast featuring coffee, Pellecchiella apricot juice from Vesuvius and the winery's panettone. Participants receive a kit with scissors, disposable gloves and an event t-shirt before entering the vineyard rows accompanied by agronomists for Catalanesca harvesting, with the opportunity to taste the grapes directly in the vineyard.

In the afternoon, there is traditional foot treading reserved for children. Vineyard tours, musical performances and, for the youngest, the "Tele di Natura – The Little Ones' Harvest" workshop curated by Valentina Porro are also scheduled.

Tasting and lunch

Each participant receives a wine glass bag to taste three wines from Cantine Olivella. Lunch includes Neapolitan pizza with Pomodorino del Piennolo del Vesuvio DOP and Agerola fior di latte, Gragnano pasta with the same tomato and a dessert with Pellecchiella apricot jam.

Those who want to go deeper can participate, in two morning slots at 10:30 and 11:30, in the masterclass "Volcanic Roots: the Essence of Vesuvius," dedicated to wines from ungrafted vines: cost 20 euros, limited to 25 places per slot, separate booking required.

Prices and bookings

The Harvest Festival costs 50 euros for adults (10 in advance, 40 on site) and 25 euros for children aged 7 to 17 (10 in advance, 15 on site); free for children up to 6 years old. Places are limited. In case of light rain, the event takes place regularly with sheltered areas, while in case of heavy weather it will be postponed with the possibility of a refund.
