Historic Trains from Genoa to Mastodonte dei Giovi and Chestnut Festival: Times and Stops

Two days of celebration, two historic trains. Liguria Region, in collaboration with Trenitalia and RFI, has organized special services with vintage trains to accompany visitors to events scheduled for Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 October in Ronco Scrivia and Rossiglione, as reported by Genova24.

Saturday 3 October: Mastodonte dei Giovi

For the Mastodonte dei Giovi event, a historic train will operate on the Genova Brignole-Ronco Scrivia route. Departure from Genova Brignole at 9.38, arrival in Ronco Scrivia at 10.50. The return journey is scheduled to depart from Ronco Scrivia at 18.39, arriving at Genova Brignole at 19.36.

Sunday 4 October: Sagra della Castagna

For the Chestnut Festival, the historic train will run on the Genova Brignole-Ovada line. Departure from Genova Brignole at 10.11 with arrival in Ovada at 15.42. Along the route there is a scheduled stop in Rossiglione at 11.20, where the train will remain until 15.30 before continuing to Ovada. The return journey departs from Ovada at 16.55, with a stop in Rossiglione at 17.05 and departure at 17.20; arrival at Genova Brignole is set for 18.32.

The Regional Assessor's Comments

Regional Transport Assessor Marco Scajola explained that the initiative stems from a request by the municipalities involved to facilitate mobility to the events. "The train represents a concrete alternative to car use, helps reduce traffic and makes travel more convenient," Scajola stated, emphasizing how vintage trains can transform the journey into an attraction capable of drawing enthusiasts from outside the region.
