Nino Migliori Turns 100, His Photos Take Over Bologna's Streets

Nino Migliori has turned 100 years old. To celebrate one of the absolute protagonists of twentieth-century Italian photography, the Cheap collective has dedicated a special poster campaign featuring a series of artworks in Bologna's public space, as reported by Resto del Carlino.

Where to Find the Posters

The posters are displayed along via dell'Indipendenza and the surrounding streets of the city center, on the notice boards of the downtown area.

What the Images Tell

The selection of images chosen traces the many stages of Migliori's research: the realistic black and white work of the 1950s, a performative portrait of Pier Paolo Pasolini at GAM in Bologna, behind-the-scenes shots from Teatro Comunale, an image of Eva Robbins, the Ustica "Tragedies," experiments with oxidations and light-grams, and a Vitruvian Ontani. There is no shortage of views of corroded walls and torn posters, along with symbols such as doves and hammers and sickles.

According to Cheap's account, Migliori has repeatedly stated that he considers photography "a form of writing": for the collective, which views the city as a text to be read, the poster campaign thus becomes a natural way of narrating his work.

Migliori's photographic archive has been collected and promoted since 2016 by the Fondazione Nino Migliori ETS.
